PCI Protection Plan

Due to the increased publicity surrounding electronic payments and fraud, MCPS now offers the PCI Protection Plan to help our merchants satisfy the requirements of PCI Security Standards Council.

The Payment Card Industry-Data Security Standard (“PCI” or “PCI DSS”), is a collaboration of Visa, MasterCard, JCB, Discover, and American Express.  The PCI DSS is a complete set of guidelines intended to strengthen payment card acceptance systems against fraud.  For more information click here or visit www.pcisecuritystandards.org.

MCPS PCI Protection Plan Details

All MCPS merchants will be given immediate access to the PCI Protection Plan website. Once logged in, merchants may begin completing the online PCI DSS Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ).

Based on PCI DSS guidelines, some merchants will need to schedule a complete PCI scan of their communications and data storage processes every quarter.  Up to 5 IP addresses are included at no additional charge.

A completed SAQ ensures indemnity coverage of up to $50,000 to pay monetary assessments, fees, fines or penalties levied against the merchant as a result of a data security breach, provided MCPS is notified within 60 days following the event. Damages shall not include security event expenses, post event service expenses, civil or criminal fines or penalties imposed by law, liquidated damages, or taxes.

Non-Validation Fee

Merchants who have not completed the validation process will be charged a monthly Non-Validation Fee (in lieu of the PCI Protection Plan Fee) until such time as they successfully complete the SAQ.

New merchants will have 45 days to complete the validation process before they are assessed the PCI Non-Validation Fee.
